You should also ensure that the clear disk goes through the optical sensor at the bottom (mine was).Ĥ) I did not bother to replace that cover, if you can do it, good for you. I just shoved it back on, so it was tightly mated to its white gear.

With some care you CAN remove this cover without any additional screwdriver work.ģ) in my case (and most others I bet) the thin disk was detached from the gear to which it should be attached. Or you can be safe and remove the one screw holding it on, by prying off the 'HP OfficeJet.One" plastic cover.Ģ) Once you have removed the scanner assembly:Īt the left side you will see three white plastic gears meshed together the farthest one is covered in a circular black Beware that you don't break off the little control panel. If the disk is detached/loose, the device thinks the paper feed roller is stuck or impeded, and thus gives the annoying error.ġ) Remove the scanner assembly (it comes off with a few screws, and is a totally separate unit The printer works with it completely disconnected (after it complains that the scanner is malfunctioning). This wheel provides motion feedback to the paper feed control software. With timing marks) on the left side of the paper-feed roller, as you look at it from the front. It has trouble feeding straight and if there is a jam anywhere in the machine - it is always difficult removing the paper without tearing it and creating more problems and waste of time. The 7680 jams a lot and the document feeder has a lot to be desired. When this one does finally go - I won't be buying an HP!

I couldn't find any information on how to repair the printer and HP seems to be all about producing junk and convincing you to "upgrade" at a cost of $2-300. I can print and everything is working fine at this time. The printer went through its maintenance cycle and did a realignment. Returned the machine to correct position - and turned it on - "paper jam" message returned but the machine was sounding different than it had - so I did another soft reset (unplug from wall and printer for 20 seconds, then holding #6 for a few seconds while plugging back in and now I can print.

(don't grease the gears - I've heard it eats the plastic) - until the rollers would freely roll when I moved the gray rubber rollers. I cleaned them thoroughly with an old but clean toothbrush and water. I noticed that there was some black residue on the gears and although the machine was off and unplugged - the rollers / gears would not roll freely and seemed to get stuck. I turned the machine upside down after removing the document feeder and examined the rollers at the back of the rear tray where the paper jam was supposed to be. Several soft resets by shutting down for 20+ seconds, then pressing #6 at start up resulted in any improvement - the screen continued to read "paper Jam." the HP tech was unable to offer any practical suggestions. I decided to take things into my own hands - First of all, no paper was ever located in the paper jam area. I have had this printer replaced once already, 1 week after I received it for a defective doc feeder.
